Power Creates Its Own Enemy
Vision once said: “Our very strength invites challenge. Challenge incites conflict. And conflict breeds catastrophe.” At first, it sounds like an argument for oversight. But maybe it is something darker—a law of power itself. The moment something becomes powerful enough to change the world, the world begins producing forces capable of challenging it.
Look at the escalation: Loki → Ultron → Thanos → the Multiverse → Doctor Doom. A threat that once meant conquering a city eventually becomes one capable of destroying a world, then a universe, then reality itself. Every victory raises the ceiling for the next catastrophe. The stronger the Avengers become, the greater the threat required to challenge them.
Maybe that’s the tragedy of power: it never exists in isolation. Power creates resistance. Resistance creates escalation. Escalation creates catastrophe. And eventually, the heroes aren’t just fighting the threats they created—they’re fighting a world that became more dangerous simply because they became powerful enough to protect it.
Vision’s words may become even more relevant. The “enhanced persons” he spoke about won’t remain a handful of extraordinary individuals. With mutants entering the MCU, superhuman abilities could become something inherent, widespread, and impossible to control. The question may no longer be “Who should oversee the Avengers?” but “How does humanity coexist with an entire population that is fundamentally different from itself?”
